WEST MILFORD NEWCOMERS CLUB NEWSLETTER

OCTOBER 2007

OCTOBER’S MESSAGE: We are in the midst of the prettiest time of year here in The Highlands. I hope you enjoy all the beauty that is around you as you go about the errands of your day. Many of our club’s activities provide us with an opportunity to enjoy these spectacular colors with friends. Now is also the time of plenty as the harvest produce hits our farmers’ markets and local farm stands. The bounty of the land is mirrored in the bounty of friendships that are available through our club. I know that I have reaped a huge harvest of that special crop. I hope you all have as well!
                         Merrilee McKittrick, Editor

OCTOBER MEETING: The October meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 9th, at the West Milford Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall with social time beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will beginning at 10 a.m.

Are you all set financially for your retirement years? With all their current responsibilities, many women do not think about their futures. Help is on the way! Our speaker for our October meeting will be Craig Cutler, a financial planner. His topic will be “Women and Money: Issues Critical to Women and Retirement.” Regardless of your age, this is a topic that is crucially important for all our members.

Refreshments will be provided by Merrilee McKittrick and Brenda Melstein.

BABYSITTING: On-site babysitting is provided for $5 per family at our meetings. Please pay our treasurer, Diane Brewer, when you come in. Please pack snacks and drinks for your own children and label their belongings, especially if they have their own drinking cup.

DUES: Our yearly dues will remain at $20. If you are presently a member, please pay your dues by our second meeting which will be on October 9th. If you cannot attend either of our first two meetings, please mail your dues to the West Milford Newcomers Club, P.O. Box 635, Hewitt, NJ 07421. If we do not receive your dues by the end of October, we will assume you are not rejoining the Club and remove you from our directory, mailing list and e-mail lists. Women new to the Club but interested in finding out more about us, may attend two meetings as well as our other activities before joining.

E-MAILED MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS: Each month, we send the current month’s newsletter and calendar by e-mail to all our members for you to print out and refer to. If you unable to receive this newsletter by e-mail or if you just prefer to receive it by U.S. Mail, please let Merrilee know. Also, the current month’s newsletter and calendar can always be accessed at our website, www.newcomersclub.net.

ADVERTISE YOUR BUSINESS: As we have been doing for several years, we will include the advertising of our members’ or their husbands’ businesses in our Membership Directory. If you know of any other business that may want to advertise in our Directory, they are welcome to do so. Ads will run $25 for a half page and can be made from a business card or run for two lines for $15. Please contact Maria Eriksson, who will prepare our new directory, to place an ad. Here’s a big THANK YOU to Maria for volunteering to take on the production of our Directory once again.

RAFFLE: Members are encouraged to bring items to be raffled off each month. You can clear out the clutter from your house and help the Club at the same time. The money earned from these raffles goes into our Club treasury to help defray expenses.

SUNSHINE SQUAD: Thank you to Helen Rezzonico who is now chairing this wonderful club function! The Sunshine Squad helps out members during difficult times by delivering dinners to them after surgery, giving birth or a serious illness. If you are willing to be called on to be of service to your fellow members at such times, please let Helen know.

NEW MEMBERS: We would like to welcome our new member, Helen Rezzonico. We would also like to welcome back our returning member, Annette O’Mahoney. They will be included in the coming Membership Directory.

  • PAY IT FORWARD: Rosemary Martin. Rosemary is now chairing this group. More information will be in the November Newsletter.

  • OTHER ACTIVITIES: New groups are always forming around the interests of our members. If there is any other activity you would like to see implemented, please feel free to bring it up. If you have a special interest or talent, perhaps you would like to share it with others in a small activity group. Once popular groups, that just need a chairman and a few interested people such as Ladies Night Out, Dinner Group or Children’s Playgroup can be revived. New ideas are ALWAYS welcome!
