WEST MILFORD NEWCOMERS CLUB NEWSLETTER
October 2006
PRESIDENT: Merrilee McKittrick
EDITOR: Merrilee McKittrick
PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:
That was quite a web we weaved last month! Getting to know more about the members of the Club is always my favorite part of the meeting. Everyone always has such interesting stories to tell. Some of those nicknames were so funny they really should be put in the directory although I promise we won’t. It seems we also have some great outfielders! It was wonderful to see so many new faces along with so many of our returning members. I hope you will continue to join in on our many activities and make some lasting friendships through the coming year.
Merrilee McKittrick, President
NEXT MEETING: Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 10th, at the West Milford Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall with coffee and refreshments available at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting beginning at 10 a.m. On- site babysitting is provided – see details below.
Our October meeting features Kathy Biehl, who will share her humorous, philosophical and informative approach to astrology. She will talk about why there’s more to astrology than what the newspaper says about your sun signs and also give a hint of what the stars hold for the rest of the year. Kathy is a professional astrologer and occasional Hiker Babe.
Refreshments will be provided by Andea Borrelli and Maria Eriksson.
MORE FUN THINGS COMING: In November, Lory Dill of Essential Skin and Body Spa, who does facials, professional makeup as well as other “beauty treatments” will help us look gorgeous for the holidays. In December, we will have our traditional Holiday brunch and gift exchange game along with an optional cookie exchange. In January, we have the author of the book, “Sixty Seconds to Success,” who will speak to us on getting and staying motivated in the new year as well as overcoming setbacks and challenges.
BABYSITTING:On site babysitting is provided for $5 per family at our meetings. Please pay our treasurer, Diane Brewer, when you come in. Please pack snacks and drinks for your own children and label their belongings, especially if they have their own drinking cup.
DUES: Our yearly dues will remain at $20. If you are presently a member, please pay your dues by our meeting which will be on October 10th. If you cannot attend this meeting, please mail your dues to the West Milford Newcomers Club, P.O. Box 635, Hewitt, NJ 07421. If we do not receive your dues by the end of October, we will assume you are not rejoining the Club and remove you from our directory, mailing list and e-mail lists. Women new to the Club but interested in finding out more about us, may attend two meetings as well as our other activities before joining.
E-MAILED MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS: Each month, we send the current month’s newsletter and calendar by e-mail to all our members for you to print out and refer to. If you unable to receive this newsletter by e-mail or if you just prefer to receive it by U.S. Mail, please let Merrilee know. Also, the current month’s newsletter and calendar can always be accessed at our website, www.newcomersclub.net.
ADVERTISE YOUR BUSINESS: As we have been doing for several years, we will include the advertising of our members’ or their husbands’ businesses in our Membership Directory. If you know of any other business that may want to advertise in our Directory, they are welcome to do so. Ads will run $25 for a half page and can be made from a business card or run for two lines for $15. Please contact Maria Eriksson, who will prepare our new directory, to place an ad
RAFFLE: Members are encouraged to bring items to be raffled off each month. You can clear out the clutter from your house and help the Club at the same time. The money earned from these raffles goes into our Club treasury to help defray expenses.
NEW KIND OF SUNSHINE SQUAD: We have decided to help each other in a new way when a member is in need of assistance. If a member is severely ill, had a baby or surgery, please put the message out on our yahoo e-mail of this person’s needs. We have found over the summer that this method works very well. Many sweet Newcomers have stepped-up and brought over meals, etc. to their fellow members and even to strangers in this way. We have also found that is not necessary to coordinate days. If you are bringing meals, please prepare something that can be frozen or refrigerated in a disposable container so that coordination of days is not necessary. Please don’t feel that you have to bring everything from bread and butter through dessert – just do what you can. Another option is to have a local establishment deliver a meal. We hope that this method will make it easier for more people to help out and assure assistance to our members when they need it.
HAPPY OCTOBER BIRTHDAYS TO: Elaine Hossfield – 10/16, Bonnie Joachim – 10/29, Annette O’Mahoney – 10/22, MarieTorres – 10/01 and Renee Weiss – 10/3.
NEW MEMBERS: We would like to welcome our new members: Sophie Adams, Andrea Borrelli and Christina Kamla. They will be included in our coming Membership Directory.
ACTIVITIES UPDATE:

*** NEWCOMERS 20TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY ***
Mark your calendars for Thursday evening, October 26th, from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. as we celebrate the West Milford Newcomers Club’s 20th Anniversary. Join former, present and future Newcomers Club members at Momento’s Restaurant where we will enjoy some good food while we catch up with friends, reminisce about the history of the club with the help of a slide show of old pictures and also look towards the future. That this is a newcomers club which has been in existence for 20 years is, in itself, pretty remarkable but the personal accounts from our members of what this club has meant to them over the years is truly heartwarming.
We will have a private room where there will be a buffet of salad, eggplant rollatini, penne with vodka sauce, fried calamari and spiedini (fried Italian bread with mozzarella & anchovy sauce) along with dessert and coffee, as well as a cash bar. The cost per person is $20, which includes tax and tip. Come celebrate this wonderful Club and the friendships and sense of community it fosters.

Approximately one week prior to Movie Night, Maria-Elena will send out an e-mail announcement to the Club, letting everyone know the title, theatre and show time. If posssible, a link that contains a synopsis will be provided. Anyone interested in attending, please reply back to Maria-Elena and plan to meet up with everyone at the ticket counter of the theatre 10 minutes before show time.
