WEST MILFORD NEWCOMERS CLUB NEWSLETTER

MARCH 2008

MARCH MESSAGE: This is the "in between" time. Winter is losing its grip but spring has not yet arrived. It's a good time to do the quiet things - long talks and walks with friends, shared meals, reading a good book and discussing it, going to a movie. We are so fortunate to have all this readily available to us through our Club. Let's take advantage of this quiet time before the garden requires our attention, house projects begin and the children are home from school for the summer. I am looking forward to seeing you at one of our Club's many offerings to share some "in between" time with you.

MARCH MEETING: Our March meeting will be held Tuesday, March 11th, at the West Milford Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall with social time starting at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 10 a.m. Babysitting is provided on the premises for $5 per family. Please pack snacks and drinks for your own children.

As winter lingers on for a bit longer, let's get warm by sharing some stories from our hearts. The theme for our March meeting is "You Marched into My Life." Please bring a story about a special person who somehow marched into your life at the right time when needed and/or who touched your life in a special way. You may bring a photo or a gift that you received from your special "March" person. Think of your story ahead of time, keeping in mind that the speaking time should be divided equally among the group.

Appointments for the Nominating Committee for next year's officers will take place at the March meeting. Two members from The Board and three members from the general membership are appointed to this committee by the President.

Refreshments will be provided by Diane Brewer and Maria-Elena Grant.

Please remember that if the schools are closed or delay opening this meeting is cancelled but we will have the meeting the following Tuesday at the same time and place.

HAPPY MARCH BIRTHDAYS TO: Maria-Elena Grant – 3/7 and Merrilee McKittrick – 3/14.

A FOND FAREWELL to Sylvie Demers and her husband Pierre who have moved back to Montreal. Sylvie has been active in our walking and hiking groups as well as the Supper Club and more recently the Book Group. We wish them happiness in their familiar surroundings although we will certainly miss them.

NEW MEMBER - THIS YEAR'S LUCKY #47: We would like to welcome our new member, Meredith Conway. Please add her to your Membership Directories.

ACTIVITIES UPDATE:

  • WALKING IN WAYWAYANDA: Mary Loudin. This group will be every Monday in Waywayanda State Park, meeting at the main entrance parking lot at the new time of 1 p.m. Children and dogs are welcome. Park regulations require that dogs be on leashes. You do not have to call Mary if you are walking, just show up by the scheduled time.

  • LET’S DO LUNCH: Merrilee McKittrick. This group will be going to Dautaj in Warwick on Wednesday, March 19th, meeting at the restaurant at 12:30 pm. Every one loved the food at this restaurant the last time we lunched there. Please let Merrilee know if you are planning to attend.

  • HIKER BABES: Debra Manfredonio. This group will be hiking every Thursday, meeting at 1 p.m., at various levels of difficulty and to different destinations. Contact Debra if you would like to be notified of this group’s plans each week.

  • A NOVEL GROUP: Debbie Maynard. The next meeting of this group will be on Wednesday, March 12th, at 8 p.m. at the home of Maria-Elena Grant. They will be discussing “Under the Banner of Heaven” by Jon Krakauer. If you are already a member of this group, please call the hostess if you are NOT attending. Guests trying it out are always welcome.

  • MOVIE NIGHT: Maria-Elena Grant. Movie night this month is Tuesday, March 4th. They will be attending the 7:10 p.m. showing of "Vantage Point" at the West Milford Theatre. Plan to meet in the lobby at 7 p.m. Please let Maria-Elena know if you plan to attend.

  • BREAKFAST BUNCH: Cindy Forrest. This group will be meeting on Thursday, March 27th, at the Oasis Diner next to Shoprite at 9:45 a.m. You do not have to let Cindy know you are going, just show up for some breakfast and conversation.
