Knit n’ Stitch

On January 14th, Helen, Maria-Elena, Blanche and I met for the first “Knit n’ Stitch” group. We welcome others who do any type of needlework and at any level of expertise. Our approach is learn and teach. We will be meeting on the second Wednesday evening each month at 7:00pm. The February group will be meeting at my home. Hope to see more of you there!

Diane Brewer, Chairperson

FEBRUARY BIRTHDAYS : Wishing continued health and happiness to: Jody Goldenberg 2/3, Brenda Melstein 2/5, Jennifer Hahn 2/7, Jennifer Hodgson 2/7, Sharyn Bell 2/14, and Carol Smith 2/25.

FEBRUARY MEETING
Our second general meeting of 2009 will be held at 9:30am on Tuesday, February 10th, at the West Milford Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Brenda Arnowitz and Kathy Maguire will supply the treats for the meeting. Rosemary Martin is the club’s “Welcoming Chairwoman” and, as such, she will greet and distribute name-tags to members and guests.

Again, babysitting is provided on the premises for $5 per family. Please pack snacks and drinks for your children. And if schools are closed or there is a delayed-opening because of the weather, the 2/10 meeting will be cancelled and we will meet the following Tuesday, 2/17, at the same time and place.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m - Michelle Ruggiero, NJS Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, will give an interesting and entertaining "Know the Bear Facts" seminar. The seminar will cover methods to discourage bears from entering a property, how to react if you encounter a bear, precautions to prevent bears from becoming a nuisance near homes, and much more!

We look forward to seeing you at this Valentine gathering. Join the fun – the more the merrier!

Three members are needed - one from the existing Board and two from the general membership. (We have a total of 56 members - so three from 56 should not be a awesome task! Additionally, you don’t have to attend the monthly meeting to serve on the committee.). Formal acceptance of a Nominating Committee will take place at the March meeting & the election of next year’s Board will take place at the May meeting. More information will follow by email or phone.

ACTIVITIES UPDATE:

  • BREAKFAST BUNCH: Cindy Forrest. This group will meet on Thursday, February 26th at 9:45 a.m. (weather permitting) at the Blue Skies café, Airport/Marshal Hill Roads. You do not have to contact Cindy if you are attending, just show up at the café.

  • DON’T WAIT to LOSE WEIGHT (DoWaLoWe) GROUP: Mary Loudin. This is a new group, organized by Mary, whose once-a-week activity will begin on Monday, January 19. The goal is simple: Each member will try to lose weight within the next four months. There’s only one requirement for group membership: Each woman must weigh herself once a week, either Sunday night or Monday morning by noon, and report her loss (if any) via email to the entire group. The hope is that having a regularly scheduled group weigh-in will motivate the members to stay firmly committed on a daily basis to the goal. There will be weekly weigh-ins until June 1, at which time DoWaLoWe will disband unless there is further interest. Call or email Mary for details.

  • HIKER BABES: Debra Manfredonio. This group will be hiking every Thursday, meeting at 1 p.m., at various levels of difficulty and to different destinations. Contact Debra if you would like to be notified of this group’s plans each week.

  • STITCH ‘n KNIT: Helen Rezzonico and Diane Brewer. The second meeting of this new group, that is open to anyone who knits, crochets, embroiders, sews, quilts...etc., will be Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the home of Diane Brewer. If you are interested, please call or email Diane or Helen and, of course, bring your 'yarn'.

  • MOVIE NIGHT: Maria-Elena Grant. Movie Night this month will be Tuesday, February 3. Maria-Elena will send an email about one week before with the details, such as the movie, the time, the theatre and carpooling arrangements.

  • NOVEL GROUP: Debbie Maynard. The next meeting of this group will be on Wednesday, February 18th at 8 p.m. at the home of Kathy McGuire. They will discuss “The Last Days of Dogtown” by Anita Diamant. If you are already a member of this group, please call the hostess if you are NOT attending. First-time guests are always welcome.

  • PAY IT FORWARD: Rosemary Martin. This group collects and donates used cell phones and toiletries, such as shampoo, toothpaste, conditioner, etc. (A product that you have used only once is acceptable.) There will be a basket available at the monthly meeting to collect these items.

  • PILI ALOHA (Friendship): Connie McHugh. The newly formed ukulele group meets on Saturdays at 11:00am and Mondays at 2:15pm - depending on the weather and availability of members. Lessons are approx. 1 hour. Since Connie will be away until April - please contact Mary Loudin or Jody Goldenberg if you are interested in becoming a Pili Aloha-ette.

  • SUNSHINE SQUAD: Helen Rezzonico. The Sunshine Squad helps out members during difficult times. If you are willing to be of service to your fellow members at such times, please let Helen know.

  • SUPPER CLUB: Renee Weiss. Supper Club will be on Saturday, February 21. Details of the "Theme Cuisine" and Location will be followed up via emails two weeks prior to event.

You do not have to call Mary if you are walking, just show up by 1 p.m. (Mary will email regular walkers each Sunday night.)

New ideas are ALWAYS welcome! If there is another group activity you would like to see implemented, or if you have a special interest or talent that you would like to share with others, then ‘Please’ let us know either through the newsletter or email or at the monthly meeting.

(Last Minute Update:Members will weigh in every Monday before noon on February 2,9,16,and 23. Members are asked to report their weekly weight loss directly to the DOWALOWE Yahoo address.)

E-MAIL: If you would like more information or would like to have the daily digest - please contact Jody Goldenberg or Annette O’Mahoney.

Jody: "I have the ability to set YOUR subscription to individual e-mails or daily digest. If you switched to digest, it would mean that you receive one big e-mail a day from the Newcomers that have all the messages listed, one after the other. I am happy to pass the directions to you if you would like to set up a Web profile, attach your group and set yourself to digest. My setting your delivery option might be an easy option for some. Let me know if this is of interest to you. (And if you hate it, we can always change it back.)"

Annette: "Want to let everyone know that you are individually able to set your email preference to the Daily Digest when you log onto your yahoo account. If the individual emails get to be too much, you can simply log onto Yahoo.com, go into your groups and set your preference for how you want to receive your emails. I have mine also set up for the daily digest and it keeps me sane. "
